superhero dream i dreamed that i had a super hero power. i ran a lot in my dream and when i woke up, i was exhausted. i had cornflakes and bananas for breakfast again. Sandra made me tea. i ate with the German couple. we stayed to talk after breakfast. it was still raining and i decided to lie in bed, relax, and take a nap if i was tired. i was really excited about going to Cahuita to see the national park, do a jungle tour and go on the internet for a dollar an hour. i think i am most disappointed about not having internet. But, no shift today! that is something to be happy about. if it stops raining, val and i will walk to the organic farm after lunch. it is half an hour past sector A and they let you try the food there.
my poor finger is still so swollen. i can only wash my hair with one hand, hold a knife with my thumb and index finger, use a pen with my middle finger sticking out and hold my hand in the air or else all the blood rushes to the bite and it throbs. my ring is tightly uncomfortable around my finger. good news is that all the bites on my leg from my first patrol night are almost healed. some have big blisters, but in general, those first bites don´t itch or hurt anymore. last night, i got bit on the bottom of my foot! but i put on afterbite right away and it turned out okay. i´ve gotten lots of mosquitor bites on my forehead. afterbite has kept them all small. only two are big bumps, but they are not so itchy. when i wear my bra, different parts of my skin are exposed from when i wear my bikini. i´ve gotten bites wearing both, so whatever i´m wearing, it rubs against my bites. i wish i could wear nothing! i try not to scratch, but the bites still blister because i need to wear long sleeves and pants when i don´t use bug repellent and that rubs against my bites. since i´ve come to costa rica, i´ve only been able to kill 3 mosquitos. they are hard to corner outdoors and luckily, i´ve only found one inside my mosquito net. i say luckily because my net is full of holes! i am using sandra´s because i sleep bottom bunk and val is using my poles so i can´t put up my mosquito net. i really hate the bug bites here, but when i am busy, it is easier to pay no attention to them.
lunch at 11, i kept joke and janek company while they ate an early lunch. then i went to sandra and said ¨yo estoy aburrido¨. she told me i could sweep my room and the porch. i studied more spanish later. sandra wrote me a note and she said val couldn´t read it and tell me what it meant. we had rice, plantain chips and beef with melon and lemon juice for lunch.
baby birds sandra showed us baby birds the size of half my pinky. they had no feathers and their eyes were closed. then we head an ¨HOLA!¨ Chris and Aine were back from panama. they brought bread and chocolate for everyone and bailey´s for Sandra. they were super burnt from snorkeling. we chatted around the table to wait for dennis. he is coming to show us jewellery we can buy. my mommy called and told me not to do adventure stuff alone since valerie is leaving now. i´m not worried about finding other people to join me because there are a lot of like-minded people here. i will have to take money out of the bank because i budgeted to do only a bit with val. now i can travel the way i wanted. i can´t wait to have the tent and top bunk. then i won´t have to lie in the dark because nothing is blocking the light. a couple of days ago, i blew the lightbulb in my flashlight because i had it on so long while i wrote in my journal.
dennis´jewellery he brought out around 50 items: necklaces, earrings, pendants, bracelets, hair pieces and rings. i picked out 5 things and spent $52. i could keep two items, but he has to custom make the other three for me. i´m so happy because we got them at a discounted price. it was a super good deal because we bought it directly from him and i bought a lot.
the sun was setting and bugs were coming out. i went to lie in bed because i didn´t want to use more bug repellent. at dinner, i helped set six spots with plates, forks and knives. Sandra said ¨Heidi, what is missing? Vasos!¨(glasses). Chris and Aine didn´t have lunch so we ate dinner without waiting for Joke and Janek to come back from their shift. we had rice, plantain chips, and omelet (with beans and cheese) with starfruit juice that felix made. Chris brought home ketchup because he seems to use it all up here. after dinner, we stayed at the table to talk. we (the german couple and i) will ask for next friday off to go with Chris and Aine to Puerto Viejo. i´m excited to use the internet there!
tomorrow we´re leaving at 7am to Manzanillo with Anibal. Joke and Janek are away too. it is a 3 hour hike on beach and through jungle. the sand there is white, water is calm. we should be able to snorkel. i packed my bags with snorkel gear, running shoes, bug repellent, sunscreen, cap and sunglasses. i just need to get dressed and grab some breakfast tomorrow.
my day off the rain stopped by 10am today. i am a bit sad we didn´t go to Cahuita and stayed in Gandoca for our day off. a change of scenery would have been nice. However, i got to spend a lot of time with Sandra, Chris and Aine came back, and i bought stuff from Dennis and no shift! it was a good day.
